About Us

Back In 1999, a small group ceramic artists, who outgrew class area at the Archie Bray, decided to start their own work space. From that original group of seven artists the Clay Arts Guild was founded. Today The Guild is a 501c(3) non-profit organization with a membership of over 100 practicing clay artists.

The Guild's mission is to promote the ceramic arts within Helena and the surrounding community by providing support and education through individual and community workspace, classes, seminars and shared resources. We are governed by an all-volunteer eight-member board which meets about once a month. Each May an annual membership meeting is held annual elections, information sharing and for major business decisions.

 5 Things to Know:

  1. All members have 24/7 access to our facilities.

  2. Our 6,780 square foot facility has everything a well stocked ceramic studio needs.

  3. We have number of electric wheels and three kick wheels, wall mounted extruders, and a spray booth.

  4. We have 4 electric kilns, 2 gas kilns, plus 1 raku kiln available too.

  5. We have the lowest firing fees just about anywhere, and firing fees include use of our own glazes.

  6. To give our kilns a break in the Summer we do not offer classes, but keep an eye out for registration to open for Fall & Winter classes

Finally, and most importantly, we are a community of like-minded individuals who share the joy of playing with mud.
